Typhoon Mujigae set to hit China: officials

Typhoon Mujigae, the 22nd typhoon of the year, is expected to hit China's eastern coastal region of Hainan or the western Guangdong province on Sunday, Chinese Met department has warned.

The storm packed with strong winds of the speed of 64.8 kilometres per hour at its eye was detected early today, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Warning the tourists in Hainan islands, the officials said the typhoon was gathering strength in the South China Sea and could bring strong gales and downpours from Sunday.

All six inter-provincial trains departing from the beach resort of Sanya suspended services today and will not resume operations until next Tuesday, according to a statement from Sanya Railway Station.
 

Coastal regions of Hainan and Guangdong are bracing for their peak travel week as China's week-long National Day holiday started yesterday.

Over 340,000 people were evacuated with train and flight services suspended as Typhoon Dujuan hit east China's Fujian province on Tuesday.
