The Uttarakhand BJP today again asked Chief Minister Harish Rawat to revive a 2011 order, issued by the previous government, for the creation of four new districts in the state.

Referring to the order that paved the way to upgrade Ranikhet, Didihat, Yamunotri and Kotdwar into districts, in his letter to Rawat, state BJP chief Ajay Bhatt alleged, "The order issued by the then BJP government was put on the backburner after a Congress led government took over."

"The Assembly elections are round the corner and it (creation of the four new districts) should be done before the Model Code of Conduct comes into force," he said.

Bhatt claimed it was the 478th letter to the Chief Minister to revive the order and upgrade the four places.

The BJP will support the state government if it plans to create a few more new districts in Uttarakhand, as the party believes small districts are preferable for administrative ease, he said.
