Acting tough over the collapse of an under construction barrage over Asan river here on Sunday, Uttarakhand Chief minister Harish Rawat today suspended four PWD engineers who were in charge of the project.
Senior engineer Shailendra Mishra, Assistant engineer BC Pandey along with two junior engineers Sanjay Saini and MS Bhensoda have been suspended for negligence, official sources said.
Chief engineer HK Upreti and Supervising engineer RC Agarwal have also been asked to give clarification over the incident, they said.
Expressing serious concern over the matter, Rawat said that such incidents raise questions over the technical capabilities of the department.
It also creates a negative impression on the states' reputation, he said.
Rawat said that along with the engineers even the contractors involved in construction are responsible for this act of negligence.
Public Works Department (PWD) was taking care of the project in the state.
The 200 mts long barrage is being built in the state at a cost of Rs 11 crore.
A portion of about 40 mts of the barrage had collapsed on Sunday night, due to sudden increase in the water level of the Asan river.
