The Uttarakhand government today presented a bill in the state Assembly to amend the rule that makes it compulsory to appoint a Lokayukta within 180 days of the issue of notification for it.

The Uttarakhand Lokayukta Act (amendment) Bill-2014 was presented in the House by State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Indira Hridayesh.

He said in the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Act, there is a provision that the Lokayukta should be appointed within 180 days of the issue of notification in this regard.

But due to some circumstances, the final decision about appointment of the Lokayukta could not be taken by the selection committee.

And now the 180-day deadline is ending and so the amendment has been proposed, he said.
