The Uttarakhand government today started free of cost air services for the poor, old and ailing in remote hill areas of the district.

The Urban Development Minister Pritam Singh Panwar flagged-off a nine-seater aircraft with five patients on it from Chinyalisaur airstrip here.

"The temporary services launched in view of poor connectivity and health facilities in the hills will last for a month and can be availed by the poor, old and ailing," Uttarkashi District Magistrate Ashish Kumar Shrivastava said.

One flight will operate twice a week, on Tuesday and Saturday, from Jollygrant to Chaniyalisaur and back as part of the service, Kumar said.

Similar free of cost flights for old and ailing people is being proposed from other remote hill areas of Uttarakhand including Gauchar in Chamoli district and Nainisaini in Pithoragarh district, the DM said.
