The Uttarakhand government today said that sugarcane growers in the state will be paid 75 to 80 per cent of their dues by next month.

"Payments were getting delayed because of the Central government, but the 75 to 80 per cent of the dues will be cleared by November," Chief Minister Harish Rawat today said while addressing a gathering at Nanakmatta in Udhamsingh Nagar district.

The Chief Minister also held the Central government responsible for farmers not getting the right price for the basmati rice crop.

The export has shut down due to the faulty policy of the Centre. As a result, farmers are not getting the right price for their produce, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, the Rawat directed district officials to initiate the process to include Rai Sikh and the Bengali community, residing near reservoir, into schedule cast list.

He asked the officials to form a five-member committee for the purpose based on the Doon University's Ethnography study.

The CM asked the committee to submit its report by December.
