Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has announced the formation of a road safety council to minimise the rate of accidents in the hilly region of Uttarakhand.
In a meeting held yesterday, Rawat announced the formation of the council at both the district and state levels.
During the meeting, Rawat asked the transport department officials to initiate checking of all vehicles to see if they have proper permit and licence and whether they are overloaded.

The CM directed the officials to cancel licence of those who will be caught drunk-driving.
He also asked for the installation of CCTV cameras at taxi stands and said that it should be mandatory for the drivers to show their licence in the camera before leaving with the passengers.
The hilly regions of the state are prone to road accidents and around 18 people were killed in road mishaps in recent weeks.
