The Uttarakhand government on Wednesday reiterated that it has no plans to open slaughterhouses in the state.

State Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik said the only abattoir in the state was in Manglaur, which was permitted by the previous Congress government in 2015-16.

"We have no plans to build any slaughterhouses in Uttarakhand and construction of none will be allowed in the state," he told reporters here.

The man who had obtained the then government's nod was getting the slaughterhouse constructed on the public-private partnership mode but when the BJP came to power in the state the permit was cancelled, Kaushik said.

The minister said the man challenged it in court and during a subsequent probe conducted into the matter, it was found he had not taken mandatory clearances before starting its construction.

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has already made it clear that the construction of slaughterhouses will not be allowed in the state.
