Describing ancient Sanskrit texts as a valuable treasure trove of knowledge, Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul today asked the state's Sanskrit University based in Haridwar to digitise and make them available to the rest of the world through the Internet.

Noting that Sanskrit occupies a pre-eminent position among the classical languages of the world, the Governor said a software should be developed by the varsity to digitise ancient texts available in the language and make them available to a larger section of global population.

Digitising Sanskrit texts will also go a long way in preserving them for the future generations, he said.

Paul, who held a meeting with University officials, suggested several other measures like translating ancient Sanskrit texts into Hindi and English so that they could be easily comprehended by more and more people, according to a Raj Bhawan release.
