Work on the 300 MW Lakhwar and 120 MW Vyasi hydroelectric projects in Uttarakhand will soon resume as the Union Law Ministry has given its approval to them, Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar said today.

He said 30 per cent of the work on these projects had already been completed before it was stopped as the Supreme Court had ordered to take Law Ministry's opinion.

Clearance from Law Ministry was necessitated because the projects were transferred from Uttar Pradesh irrigation department to the Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) after UP's bifurcation in 2000.

Law Ministry clearance paves the way for resumption of work as other necessary clearances have already been obtained, Kumar said, adding that these projects do not fall under the ambit of an SC ban on similar projects.
