In a first for Uttarakhand, a 'National Science Day' programme will be held at the Raj Bhawan here on February 28 to attract young students towards the benefits of science and inspire them to take up its study.
The event is outcome of the initiative of Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul, who is creditedwith introducing several measures to incentivise pursuit of excellence in the academic field during his tenure.
The inaugural edition of the event with the theme 'Reinventing India as Innovation Nation' will be addressed by internationally acclaimed scientist R A Mashelkar who has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar awards.

The general public will also become more aware of science and scientific achievements through this programme, it said.
To be held every year, the event will be attended by VCs, scientists, students and representatives of the administration of state universities.
Ever since he took over as Uttarakhand Governor, Paul has taken several steps including introduction of awards and events to incentivise pursuit of merit in academic field such as the Governor's Award for Class X and XII toppers and the principals of the best-performing schools besides organising a 'toppers conclave' from 10 state-based universities at the Raj Bhawan.
