A case has been registered against a sugar mill in Uttarakhand for allegedly discharging effluents in the Ganga river.
Police has yesterday registered a case against Raibahadur Dugar Mill at Laksar in Uttarakhand under various sections of IPC for discharging polluted water in the Ganga river, SHO Pritam Singh said.
On January 27, some devotees taking a holy dip at Shukertal in this district found the water to be polluted. A probe was initiated which found the mill responsible for discharging effluents.
During the meeting, Bharti said the government will use
20 trash skimmers "very soon" along the entire stretch of river Ganga in addition to five machines which have already been put in operation.
She informed that 1242 ghats and drains in 411 villages have been identified for the river front development and work on the same will begin "very soon".
The Minister said the government has completed survey of 59 towns out of the 118 located along the river where sewage treatment plants (STPs) will be repaired/installed. She informed that 27 reports on the same have been prepared, while 50 others will be received by month-end.
"Tenders for 10 STPs based on hybrid annuity model will be floated by July 31," she tweeted.
She also said that Wild Life Institute of India has been selected to suggest majors for conservation of dolphins, crocodiles and other species.
In addition to this, Central Inlands Fisheries Research Institute has been asked to undertake various majors for the conservation of various types of fish," the statement reads.
Bharti, the statement added, also said that on the basis of recommendations of the Forest Research Institute, trees will be planted in 2,700 hectare areas along the holy river during the current financial year.
The Minister said that 57 manual and five real time stations have already started functioning to monitor quality of water in the river. In addition to this, 113 more such stations will be set up by March next year.
Members attending the meeting raised various issues pertaining to sand mining de-silting, Ganga Act, etc.
They expressed their satisfaction over the progress of Namami Gange programme and various other initiatives taken up by the Ministry, the statement claimed.
The attendees also held discussions over the issue of industrial effluents.
A CPCB representative appraised the members about the progress in this regard and informed that real time effluents monitoring stations have been set up in 508 grossly polluting industries. He said closer notice have been issued 150 such industries, the statement said.
