CPI Kerala unit secretary Kanam Rajendran today met two of the five Maoists, lodged in the Central Jail here today.

Aafter meeting Shyna and Anoop, Rajendran told reporters that Shyna had complained that they were not treated as political prisoners, despite various representations.

Stating that under the jail manual, certain provisions, including a table and chair, should be provided to political prisoners, Rajendran, here to attend the 41st AITUC conference, said, adding that the jail authorities have not not heeded to their request, particularly, Shyna, who has some health problem.

Moreover, cases under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) should not be registered against such political prisoners or men in public life, like politicians, he said, adding that CPI was creating awareness against such misuse of UAPA.

When asked about visiting them considered to be extremists, against whom NSA was invoked, Rajendran said though his party has not supporting their style of functioning, the issues raised by them were common.

Moreover, he said that there were no evidence in their involvement in illegal activities, but only some cheating cases and police were adding on cases after cases in the intervening period, which will not stand.

Shyna and Anoop were arrested along with three others in May last year here.
