Udhayanidhi fixes 30 lakh membership target for youth wing

DMK youth wing secretary Udhayanidhi on Sunday set enrollment of 30 lakh new members in two months as the first target for office-bearers after taking over as the chief of the key party unit last month.

Udhyanidhi, son of DMK chief Stalin, after chairing a meeting of youth wing's office-bearers including state organisers here said,"the first task is enrolling 30 lakh members in the youth wing."

Answering a question on his work plan for the youth wing, he told reporters that the first task was enrolling the new members between September 14 and November 14.

"I have given a time frame; 10,000 members should be enrolled for every Assembly constituency," he said adding the office bearers have assured achieving the target.

 

Camps would be held across Tamil Nadu to enlist members and a model camp was conducted on last Sunday, he said.

Changes have been made in the norms to enroll men upto 35 years of age from 18 and for the first time membership cards will feature photographs as well, he said.

The previous age norm allowed enrollment of members between 15 and 30 years of age.

A resolution was adopted in the meet urging the Centre to give priority to Tamil people in Tamil Nadu in Central public sector job opportunities.

Udhayanidhi took over as youth wing secretary on July 4, a post held by his father for three decades.
