Addressing the media after the general council, Roy said, "We will try our best to ensure the party comes out as the single largest party (in the 2018 Assembly elections).

Roy, a former chief minister, predicted that the votes the Congress and the BJP are likely to be divided in the polls.

Downplaying the change of leadership, the UDP chief said, "The major change we as a party is seeking is the 'change in approach on how to handle the issues concerning the state. We have decided to work as a team where everybody's role is equally important.

Lambasting the government's failure in this regard,

Lanong said, "What is their fate, when the state government has not applied the same yardstick in the case of the KHADC CEM."

Meanwhile, UDP senior working president was also of the opinion that if the post of an MDC is being declared as not an office of profit, "the big question that will arise" is if the state government misled the state assembly and people of the state and if so why.

"The state government will have to take full responsibility for misleading the people and the state Assembly," he stated.
