UGC approves Guru Gobind Singh, Dayanand Saraswati chairs in

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a proposal for setting up chairs named after Guru Gobind Singh and Swami Dayanand Saraswati in Central universities.

In a letter to Vice Chancellors of Central universities, UGC secretary Jaspal S Sandhu said that in order to enrich the academic resources of the university system for a deeper reflection on critical issues, the UGC has formulated the Scheme of Chairs in the name of illustrious persons.

In line with this vision, the UGC has approved a chair in the name of Guru Gobind Singh in the field or subjects - "social reformer" and "comparative study of all the religions and culture."
 

The letter said the Commission has also approved a chair in the name of Swami Dayanand Saraswati in the subject areas 'social reformer or social awakening'.

In his letter, the senior UGC official invited proposals from universities for setting up these chairs.
