Aiming at bringing greater transparency and helping students make informed decisions, UGC today asked vice chancellors to ensure that institutes display on their website information such as admission procedure, fee structure and their accreditation ranking.

In a communication to all VCs, which comes in midst of the admission season across the country, UGC has also asked them to display profile of teachers, research output of the institution and placement profile of the pass-outs of the institutes.

"The structure of the fee charged for each course along with other funds like institution development," should also be posted on the website, it said.

The move comes in the wake of the spurt in complaints about institutes concealing information and misleading parents and their wards on tuition fee and other expenses.

"UGC desires that for the benefit of the students who seek admission in your esteemed university, colleges, it would be appropriate that all relevant information regarding your institution should be displayed on the website," it said in the communication.

Institutes have been asked to report back to UGC about the action taken in 15 days.

They have also been asked to provide information on the departments which have been recognised as centre of excellence by funding agencies and scholarships available.

Details of students grievance mechanism, research output and academic calender are some of the other points highlighted in the communication that should be posted on the website.

All student-centric facilities available at institutions, especially hostel, transport, all relevant approval of statutory bodies and name of nodal officers for students facilitation services should also be provided on the website, it said.
