The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given two months to varsities to upload information about PhD scholars on their websites, failing which their names will be made public.
The commission had last year directed the universities to maintain data of PhD students in a prescribed proforma and upload them on their websites.
But a few universities conducted the exercise.

"The Commission has decided to request all the universities to upload data regarding PhD on their websites on the parameters mentioned in the proforma within two months and send a link to us," the letter said.
"It has further been decided that the commission will maintain a list of defaulting universities on its website if some universities fail to undertake the exercise," it added.
The details sought in the proforma prescribed by the UGC include name of the supervisor, Aadhaar number of the student, mode of PhD, research topic, likely date of completion, and details of fellowship availed, if any.
