The UGC has sanctioned Rs 800 lakh to Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in the 12th plan, of which Rs 320 lakh has already been released, Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar, has said.
The minister stated this in a letter to Prof Richard Hay, Lok Sabha MP, who had raised the issue in the house on efforts being put in by the university at Kalady in preserving the rich heritage of India.
"Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Shri Lal Bhadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan New Delhi and Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupathi, three deemed universities under this ministry have libraries where rare valuable manuscripts related to different branches of Sanskrit literature- Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Astrology, Vyakaran, Vedanta, Sankhya Yoga Nyaya, Music and Ayurveda are preserved, some of which belong to the period of Vikram Samvat1800-2000 and some are even more ancient', he said.
