UGC to review syllabus of defence and strategic studies

The UGC has set up an expert committee to review the existing syllabus of defence and strategic studies in the country, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar told the Lok Sabha today.

In a written reply, he said that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) collaborates with various universities and academia to impart specialised education in the field of defence and strategic studies to provide skilled manpower to domestic defence industries in the country.

"University Grants Commission (UGC) has set up an Expert Committee to review the existing syllabus of defence and strategic studies at Under Graduate/Post Graduate and M. Phil./Ph.D. Levels," he said.
 

UGC has also decided to support the upgrading of the department of defence and strategic studies in 10 universities in the country during 12th Plan period.

Initially, proposals from the universities of Allahabad, Madras, Pune, Manipur and Punjab, have been invited for upgrading of existing department of defence and strategic studies.
