Mehrotra, who had served as principal adviser on shipping to Iran's government, has given 10 lessons in his book for achieving success.

In "What's in it for you", he advises people to think out of the box and take risks.

"Life has many opportunities but we have to open ourselves and not be confined to our comfort zone," he said.

The book was released here by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Veteran journalist Mark Tully, who has written the foreword for the book, read excerpts from it at the event.

Mehrotra, who served in Iran during a politically sensitive time and worked closely with both the Shah of Iran and Ayatollah Khomeini, said sticking to his professional work kept him away from problems.

"I retained myself to my profession. If you don't indulge in politics and provide professional work then there is no problem," he said.

He was working with the Shipping Corporation of India when he was selected to go to Iran.

"We have our own economic necessities which we should look at, while dealing with Iran," said Mehrotra, who was a founder member of Iran-o-Hind Shipping Company, a joint venture between India and Iran set up in 1975.

Talking about his investment plans in India, he said the USD 1 billion Foresight Group, which was established by him in London in 1984, is looking at major investments in the country.

"Foresight group is investing USD 500 million in acquisition of new third generation oil rigs with aim to work here. Also there are plans to expand the shipping fleet with focus on India's need," he said.

"We also plan to invest USD 40 million in India to add another 150 stores under our joint venture with UK-based Pavers Limited for Premium Footwear retail, after single brand FDI is cleared," he said.

The 71-year-old businessman said all proceeds from the sale of his book will go to a non-profit organisation, which he established in his hometown of Kanpur.
