UK-Mizo collaboration

British High Commissioner to India Sir James Bevan today expressed the hope that the UK government and the Mizoram state would collaborate in the fields including education, exploration of mineral resources, investment in power and sports soon.

Addressing a press conference here, Bevan said that UK and Mizoram were linked through history, churches, education and sports particularly football as Mizos are devoted fans of English football clubs.

He expressed optimism that the British companies would be interested in sharing their expertise in hydrocarbon exploration, power generation and tourism sectors in the state.

Sanjay Wadvani, the Kolkata-based deputy high commissioner, who accompanied the High Commissioner, said that a long-lasting relationship and cooperation could be built in the form of utilising the services and expertise of the English football coaches in the football crazy state.
 

Bevan, who arrived here yesterday, met state governor Vakkom Purushothaman, chief secretary L Tochhong and leaders of the Presbyterian Churchand, is scheduled to meet chief minister Lal Thanhawla tonight.
