British Prime Minister David Cameron and Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold face-to-face talks this week, amid tensions sparked by the Ukraine crisis and Prince Charles reportedly comparing Putin to Adolf Hitler.

Cameron's 10 Downing Street office says the two leaders will meet on Friday in Normandy, France, where both will attend events to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

It said the talks would be an opportunity "to set out the importance of a dialogue between the Russian government and the new Ukrainian government" following last month's presidential election in Ukraine. Britain opposed Russia's annexation of Crimea and has accused Moscow of fomenting instability in eastern Ukraine.

During a visit to Canada last month, Prince Charles reportedly compared Putin's actions in Ukraine to those of Hitler.
