British High Commissioner to India James Bevan and Patricia Hewitt, the chair of the UK India Business Council (UKIBC) which is an organising partner of the event, will be addressing the inaugural session on January 11.

Moreover, business delegations representing around 50 companies will also be taking part in the mega event.

"The UK will be a key participant in Vibrant Gujarat 2013, hosting a large 'Great Britain' exhibition stand at the international pavilion and bringing in 50 UK companies, including leading trade bodies," a release issued by the UK Embassy here said.

The Britain had boycotted Gujarat after the 2002 riots and put a freeze on all diplomatic relations with the state before it announced on October 11, 2012 that it was re-engaging the Modi government.

The announcement was followed by the visit of Bevan to Gujarat when he had met Modi and decided to take UK-Gujarat ties forward.

The UK companies participating at Vibrant Gujarat will be from across a range of sectors including advanced engineering, chemicals, education, food and drink, financial and legal services, healthcare, infrastructure, life sciences (pharmaceuticals and biotech) and management services (see list attached separately), according to the release.

Prominent companies that will be participating in the event include A4e, AgustaWestland, Atkins Blackstone Franks LLP, Royds LLP, Standard Chartered Bank and Sun Global Investments Ltd.
