Though various regional outfits came out in support of the bandh, most of the shops and business establishments remained open in the state capital.

While the state government has said people residing in the state since its formation in 2000 are its original domiciled residents, UKD is demanding that the cut off year be set as 1955.

Over two dozen activists of Uttarkhand Jan Manch, including its working president Rajen Todaria, were detained while trying to enforce a 'chakka' jam on the city's busy Ghanta Ghar chowk.

However, shops in certain pockets of the city like Araghar and Brahmpura downed their shutters in response to the bandh.
