Claiming that the situation in Uttarakhand under the Harish Rawat government was similar to that during the emergency, BJP today celebrated 'Save Democracy Day' in the state to mark Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan's 113th birth anniversary.

"Dynasty and democracy cannot work together and that is why BJP has decided to celebrate 'Save Democracy Day' to mark Jayaprakash Narayan's birth anniversary," party national vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe said here.

Comparing the present state of Uttarakhand to that of emergency, BJP's state unit president Tarith Singh Rawat alleged that party MLAs were being falsely implicated and their voices were being suppressed.

"The situation in Uttarakhand today is similar to emergency in 1975. Not only our MLAs are being falsely implicated, but our voices are also not being heard," he said.

"Two of our party MLAs Rajkumar Thukral and Arvind Pandey from Rudrapur and Gadarpur have been booked in 'false' cases. When their family members attempted to meet CM Harish Rawat, not only did he refuse to meet them but filed a case against them for disturbing peace in the area," he alleged.

Demanding withdrawal of the cases against Thukral and Pandey, BJP leaders have been sitting on a dharna in front of the CM's residence since October 5, he said.
