West Bengal government has asked all urban local bodies to take steps for handling solid waste to ensure hygiene and sanitation outside medical colleges and hospitals located in urban areas of the state.
The municipal affairs department has recently issued an instruction to all the 125 urban local bodies of the state to take immediate steps for collection, lifting and transportation of solid waste to the dumping sites or disposal sites of the respective municipalities on a daily basis, officials said.
Municipalities have also been advised to use the movable compactors already provided to all the municipalities to collect the solid waste daily from the specific collection point of these hospitals for their proper disposal accordingly, they said.
