UN Under-Secretary General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Angela Kane arrived here on a week-long visit to Nepal to discuss the dismantling of weapons and development issues in the country.
The UN Under-Secretary-General, who arrived yesterday, will hold separate meetings with Chairman of interim government Khil Raj Regmi and Minister for Foreign Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Foreign Ministry sources said.
During the meetings with the top UN official, Nepal is expected to focus on the mass destruction of weapons as well as transferring the millions of rupees being invested in military expenses to poverty alleviation and development areas, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Dipak Dhital said.

Kane will also visit the UN Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament (UNRCPD) in Asia and the Pacific based in Kathmandu.
Nepal, a signatory to the Arms Trade Treaty, will present its views about peace, education and for the effective functioning of UNRCPD in Asia-Pacific region.
