Unaccounted cash worth Rs 43 lakh seized from train passenger

A train passenger was arrested here today after the police seized Rs 43 lakh of unaccounted cash from his possession, the police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team seized the amount from the bag of one S Naresh, a clerk working with a jewellery shop, while he was travelling in the general compartment of the Vivek Express (Dibrugarh to Kanyakumari) train, Ongole II Town Inspector V Suryanarayana said.

"After a tip-off that that money was being transported in the train for suspected anti-social activities, the police kept a watch and nabbed Naresh. For clarification, we have handed over the money to Income Tax department. Naresh has been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Criminal Procedure Code," the inspector said, adding that further investigations are on.
