Uncertainty persisted over alliance between the AAP and the Congress, even after party president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday said the Congress is "open and very flexible" for a tie-up with other parties.

Delhi Congress president Sheila Dikshit, and AICC in-charge of the Delhi Congress P C Chako met Gandhi at his residence to discuss the issue.

Later, she huddled with other leaders of the Delhi Congress at her residence in a meeting that continued for several hours. However, Dikshit maintained silence over it.

When asked about the Congress' stand on alliance in Delhi, Gandhi told reporters, "There is no confusion on this. The situation is actually very clear on this issue. We have constructed alliances."

"We have been open to construct alliances and we have done it across the country. We are very flexible on this issue," he said.

Chacko was present in both the meetings. He did not comment on whether a final decision was made on alliance with the AAP.

"The process is on for selection of candidates. This is a preliminary discussion, ultimately the party president will take a decision. We will announce candidates on all seven seats," he said emerging from the meeting at Dikshit's residence.

Others who joined the meeting included AICC spokesperson Pawan Khera, AICC co-incharge of Delhi Congress Kuljit Singh Nagra, Delhi Congress working presidents Rajesh Lilothia and Haroon Yusuf, spokesperson Jitendra Kochar, Yoganand Shahtri, Ragini Naik.

Lilothia said the Delhi Congress maintains its opposition to alliance with the AAP because it will "ruin" the party.

"This stand was clearly stated by the Delhi Congress president during the meeting with Rahul Gandhi," Lilothia said.

Dikshit, who has been opposing an alliance with the AAP, had said on Sunday that the decision on a tie-up for Lok Sabha polls will be declared in a few days.

She had met Gandhi over the issue along with Delhi Congress leaders last month as well. There is unanimity against alliance with the AAP, she had said after the meeting.

The decision from Gandhi on an alliance is expected "anytime" now, sources said.

The Delhi Congress is divided over the issue, with one side claiming that a 4:3 seat sharing formula has been finalised and the AAP will be asked to leave three out of the seven parliamentary constituencies in national capital.

AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal had, however, said on Monday that Gandhi had refused an alliance with his party.
