Under trial dies after consuming food given by rivals

An under trial prisoner lodged in Agra district jail, died in hospital last night after he had consumed food allegedly poisoned by his rivals.

According to jail authorities, Dinesh Chand Soni (45) and his sons, Yogendra (26) and Vishal (22) were lodged in jail in a case filed by their relatives in Sikandra police station.

On Friday morning, the three were taken to the district court for a hearing after which they were brought back to the jail around 5.30 pm. On reaching the jail, the three started vomiting.

On suspicion that they had consumed poisonous substance, jail authorities informed police, who took them to SN Hospital, where Yogendra and Dinesh were admitted to ICU where Yogendra later died.
 

CO Hariparbat Manisha Singh said the body had been sent for post mortem.

As per the statement of Vishal before the police, his father's elder brother, with whom the family were in litigation, had proposed a compromise after the hearing and had offered 'puris' to them.

On consuming them he, his brother and his father had started feeling sick.

A case has been registered against the alleged accused, police said.
