Under-trial escapes custody, 3 policemen suspended

An under-trial prisoner, arrested for entering prohibited Army area, escaped from custody after being produced in a district court here, police said today.

Kamalnath, a resident of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, was arrested last year from restricted Army area in Chakeri here, Kotwali, Circle Officer, Jeetandra Srivastava said.

The accused was produced in the district court yesterday, police said, adding that he managed to escape while being taken back to prison.

An FIR has been registered against the fugitive with Kotwali police, Srivastava said, adding that a case has also been filed against three police officials, accompanying the under-trial.

The erring officials namely Shyam Sundar, Vijay and Lakhan were suspended today, he said.
 

A police team has been sent to Coimbatore to search for the accused, police said adding, the matter is being investigated.
