"There is broad understanding between the coalition partners for the empowerment of panchayati raj institutions on the pattern of 73rd Amendment of the Constitution by incorporating the best provision in the state Panchayat Raj Act," Soz said.
He said the BDC elections were deferred to provide reservation to women, SCs & other sections and the polls will be held soon after the necessary amendments in the state Act.
Soz was addressing panchayat representatives in Akhnoor, some 35 kms from here.
He noted that an empowered panchayati raj system will help in effective delivery of services at the grassroots level.
Soz said a turn out of over 80 per cent in panchayat elections in the state reflected the expectations of the people from the PRIs.
