A 54-year-old Afghan national, who was lodged in the Tihar Jail for alleged drug smuggling and subsequently admitted to the AIIMS for treatment, has fled from the hospital, the police said today.

Ahmed Javid, an undertrial at the Tihar Jail, was arrested three years ago for allegedly smuggling heroin from Afghanistan.

On September 29, he fell ill and was taken to the AIIMS the next day.

He fled from the hospital taking advantage of a large number of patients and their relatives there, the police said.
