Undertrial commits suicide in Jaisalmer jail

A 25-year-old undertrial inmate at the Jaisalmer prison today allegedly committed suicide in the jail lavatory, officials said here.

The deceased, identified as Ganeshram, was found hanging from a towel in the lavatory of the jail after marking attendance at around 11.30 in the morning, a jail official said.

He was facing trial in a rape case of a minor and was charged under sections 376 of the Indian Penal Code and other sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official said.

Ganeshram hailed from Roopsar village and the case was registered with Bansoon village in the same district.
 

A sub-Divisional Magistrate enquiry has been ordered into the case, he said.
