In less than ten days, another undertrial today allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in the modern jail here this afternoon.

The undertrial identified as Naffast Hssain alias monu (19), resident of village Budho pinder here, committed suicide with his headgear 'parna', Jail Superintendent Paramjit Singh Sandhu said.

This is the third suicide case within ten days in the Modern jail.

Notably, on May 19, two undertrials had allegedly committed suicide in the same fashion in the jail premises.

Sandhu said the inmate was a drug addict and was facing a trial under NDPS act following recovery of 30 grams of narcotics on May 28, 2014.

Hssain was released on bail and was again arrested on May 20 this year when he jumped the bail following failure to attend the trial court proceedings, the Jail Superintendent said.

The court again granted him bail but his parents failed to furnish the bail bond due to poor economic condition which frustrated him and he ended his life by committing suicide, Sandhu said.

However, mother of the deceased demanded a high level inquiry into the suicide of his son.
