A day after an undertrial was shot dead inside the district court premises here, four policemen, who were on duty during the incident, were suspended on charge of negligence of duty, a police spokesman said today.

Constables Rajpal Singh, Kunwar Pal Singh, Tilak Singh and Shiv Sajjan, who were on duty at the gates of the court when undertial Hoshiar Singh (45) was shot dead, were suspended last night, the spokesman said.

Security arrangements at the court have been beefed up in the wake of yesterday's killing, he said.

Agitated with the incident, lawyers have threatened to go on strike if security arrangements are not improved.

Police said yesterday's killing by half a dozen armed men inside the court premises was connected to a feud between two groups belonging to Bachauta village under Tappal police station area in which seven persons have lost their lives in the past 22 years.

The postmortem report of Hoshiar revealed that he had received eight bullet wounds from a point blank range.

A relative of the victim, who had come to meet him at the court, was also seriously injured in the firing.

According to spokesman of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, the injured person has received a bullet injury in his backbone.
