Undertrial escapes from court complex in Gurdaspur

The undertrial was having refreshment along with cops accompanying him at a tea shop in court premises, police said here.

Suddenly, the handcuffed undertrial, facing grave criminal charges, pushed the cops off and sped away. Then he managed to steal a scooter in front of a shop at Bahrampur road and fled, they said.

The fugitive was identified as Avtar Singh, alias Laddi, resident of Jaure Khurd Village falling under Dera Baba Nanak police station.

He was booked on October 27, 2011 under various sections of IPC and Arms Act and was lodged in Gurdaspur Jail.

When contacted Batala SSP Tulsi Ram said,"efforts are being made to arrest the undertrial and police teams have been dispatched to nab him."

 

Police officials said undertrial was accompanied by ASI Arjun Singh and Ravinder Singh and Head constable Ravinder Singh.

He has sought a report with regard to undertrial's escape, and strict action will be taken against the erring cops, SSP added.
