An undertrial, who was being taken back to jail after a hearing in a Pratapgarh court, escaped police custody today from a moving train near Barthan Railway Station here, police said.
The incident occurred when Naushad was being taken back to Mathura jail by police after a hearing at the local court, they said, adding he escaped from the Magadh Express.
A sub-inspector and three constables, who were accompanying the accused, have been arrested, police said.
The police is trying to trace the undertrial who faces a number of charges, including murder and attempt to murder, they said.
