A 24-year-old undertrial was found dead in prison premises here, with his family members alleging that he was brutally beaten up by the police.

Rajesh alias Rakesh was taken into custody by the GRP on October 14 from his residence at Ajronda village.

His family today received a call from the prison officials saying that Rajesh has died. Upon reaching the prison, the family found injury marks all over his body and alleged that the Rajesh was 'brutally beaten up'.

Anticipating a protest by the family, the post-mortem was performed under the supervision of a magistrate.

The family said that Rajesh was taken by the police on pretext of identification of some person. However, he was later produced in court and sent to jail.

The deceased's father Amar Singh also accused the police of taking Rs 4,000 which they found in the pocket of Rajesh.

He said that the police asked them to pay Rs 4,000 more if they don't want their son to be beaten up.

Manju Devi, mother of the victim, said that the injury marks on the body of her son are an evidence that he was killed by the police.

The magistrate, supervising the matter said that the FSL of the deceased has been sent to Madhuban for analysis and the case would proceed further once the report is received from the laboratory.

SHO Police Station Ballabgarh Sadar, Inspector Anil Kumar said that the facts would be come forth only after getting the post-mortem report, which the laboratory would be sharing with the Magistrate only.

On the allegations levelled by the family, the officer said that the magistrate talked to the family in a closed room and the police didn't know anything about it.
