An undertrial prisoner lodged in the Central jail here died in his barrack, a jail official said today.

Virendra, 35, facing trial in a theft case in a local court, complained of chest pain at around 5 PM yesterday. He was subsequently examined by the jail doctor who declared him dead, Jail Superintendent Gopal Tamrekar said.

The jail doctor suspected that the accused suffered a heart attack.

The body was sent for postmortem and a judicial probe has been recommended by the jail authority, Tamrekar said, adding that that Virendra's family has been informed about his death.
