A 50-year-old undertrial prisoner, facing murder charges, died today after complaining of chest pain at a jail in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, a police official said.

Mohammad Latief, a resident of Rattal village, was lodged at district jail Dhangri, the official said.

He said the undertrial prisoner was shifted to hospital but died under treatment.

Latief surrendered to police in February after evading his arrest for nearly a month in connection with the killing of a man on January 13.

The duo had a land dispute and during a scuffle, the other person sustained grievous injuries and later died in a hospital, the official said.

He said the body of the deceased was handed over to his family after completion of legal formalities.
