An undertrial murder accused, who had come for a court hearing, was today shot dead inside the court complex in Haryana's Bhiwani district, police said.

"Sher Singh (40), who was on bail, was shot at by three assailants near advocates while he was heading towards a nearby tea shop," Bhiwani Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria said.

The assailants were arrested and three pistols and their jeep were recovered from their possession, the SP said.

The assailants were identified as Vinod of Bibipur village, Ankit and Suresh of Kalod village, Bhoria said, adding one of the assailants was a member of the complainant party who had registered a murder complaint against Singh in a four-year-old case.

Singh, a resident of Kaloud village, was booked under murder charges in 2013 at Siwani police station in the district.

Meanwhile, the lawyers who practise in the Bhiwani court complex have demanded adequate security arrangements to prevent any recurrence of the incident.

Notably, in March this year, one person was killed and five others, including a lawyer, were injured when two men opened fire indiscriminately outside the district court complex in Rohtak, targeting a gangster who had come there for a hearing.
