An undertrial who had escaped from custody last month was arrested from Gurgaon, police said on Wednesday.

On July 17, two constables were killed near Banither village after unidentified assailants opened fire at a jail van to help Shakeel, Kamal and Dharampal escape.

The van was returning with 24 prisoners to Moradabad from a court hearing in Chandausi.

Dharampal was arrested from Gurgaon in Haryana by the Sambhal police on Tuesday and he has been brought here under heavy security, Superintendent of Police Yamuna Prasad said.

He will be produced before a court here and taken on remand for questioning. The two other accused, Shakeel and Kamal were killed in police encounters, the SP said.

Prasad said Shakeel was killed in an encounter along with four other people at a place which falls under the Rajpura police station. Kamal was killed three days later in another encounter at the Gawan-Sambhal road in Amroha district, he added.
