Undertrials lodged in district court lock-up today created a ruckus and clashed with policemen, injuring some of them, when an inmate was pulled up for carrying a mobile phone.

Brijendra Sonekar, an undertrial in a murder case brought to the lock-up for a court hearing from district jail, was found in possession of a mobile phone by policemen on duty, ASP Ram Murat Yadav said.

Refusing to hand it over, Sonekar and others in the lock- up broke chairs and other furniture and hurled them at the policemen resulting in minor injuries to some of them, the ASP said.

Senior officers, including the circle officer, rushed to the lock-up with additional force and controlled the situation, the ASP said, adding that further action was being taken in this connection.
