Chandra Kumar and Rishi Kumar were brought to the courts of district and sessions judge and chief judicial magistrate respectively for hearing in a double murder case, the sources said.
After the hearing, Chandra and Rishi were escorted by constable Ajai Kumar, who instead of taking them to jail in a police vehicle, took them in a private car reportedly towards Bhongaon.
On the way, the constable was shot dead and his dead body thrown off near Rui village, police said.
Superintendent of Police Shalabh Mathur rushed to the spot and directed police to start combing operations to nab the escaped prisoners.
He said inquiry had been ordered as to how the constable took the undertrials towards Bhongaon instead of jail which was on the way.
