Underworld don Chhota Rajan's alleged operative, wanted in several cases in the city and neighbouring Thane district, has been arrested from suburban Mulund and a country-made pistol was recovered from him, police said today.

The accused, identified as Vijay Mahadik alias Raju (32), was apprehended last night at a bus stop near Airoli toll-naka in Mulund, a crime branch officer said.

Acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid near Airoli toll naka off Eastern Express Highway when a man got down from an autorickshaw and stood at a bus stop, the officer said.

"After observing the man, it was confirmed that he was Mahadik, who was then overpowered by our men. Upon frisking, a country-made pistol, four live cartridges and two mobile phones were found in his possession," the officer said.

Mahadik was subsequently arrested, police said adding that he was wanted in several cases, including a stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 (MCOCA) case registered against him in Thane.
