Unidentified persons open fire at gym owner; four detained

A 40-year-old man here was wounded after four unidentified persons allegedly opened fire at him here, following which four people were detained today, police said.

The incident took place last night when the victim, Shivmilan Singh, a gym owner in city's Anand Nagar, was travelling from from Pathardi Phata and was intercepted by four persons near Vadner Gate on the Nashik Devlali camp road, in-charge of Upnagar police station, Bajirao Mahajan said.

According to the complaint lodged by Singh, he was stopped and forcibly taken out of his car by assailants, who then fired rounds from a revolver. A bullet hit his left hand, injuring him severely.
 

Four persons were detained in the wee hours in connection with the incident and are being interrogated, the inspector said, adding that they have also recovered an empty round and a live round from the spot.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (circle no.2), Shrikrishna Kokate, however, suspect that Singh, who has offences of dacoity and extortion lodged against him, himself staged the attack on him as he had borrowed a large sum of money several people and was under pressure to repay them.
