Unidentified persons shot at BJD supporter

Unidentified persons shot at a 45-year-old man said to be a supporter of BJD at Mundamaria village, about 60-km from here in Ganjam district today, police said.

The man was identified as Jagannath Patra. He was admitted in MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and his condition was stated to be serious, they said.

Patra was having discussion with some people when unidentified persons fired at him, said Inspector in Charge of Daharakote police station Ranjan Kumar Dey.

The incident occurred immediately after the departure of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who was campaigning for the BJD candidates in the panchayat polls.
 

The incident has create panic among the people just ahead of the three tier panchayat elections.

"Patrolling was intensified in the area", said a police officer.
