Union Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Nayan Choubey and other officials today inspected the under-construction Pakyong airport in Sikkim which is likely to become operational by June, an official statement said.
They visited the terminal building, the runway and went through various technical issues such as refuelling, a Sikkim government statement said here.
Choubey asked the officials to expedite the work so that it could be completed during the stipulated time frame.
Deliberations were also held on beautification of the premises and interior decoration, the statement said.
Officials of Airports Authority of India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Spice Jet Operations department, and Sikkim Chief Secretary A K Srivastava accompanied Choubey during the inspection.
Later, the Union civil aviation secretary and the Sikkim chief secretary called on Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling at his official residence and discussed the progress of the work in the airport, the statement said.
Pakyong airport is located around 35 kilometre from the state capital Gangtok.
